xiii, 303 pp. Original green cloth, gilt and black titles, gilt decorations including Captain Nemo with sextant, brown endpapers. Translated from Verne's original French, with 110 engraved illustrations. One of Verne's most well-known works, and a pioneering work of science fiction. The first American edition was printed in Boston by James Osgood - this edition is now quite scarce because nearly all copies were lost in a warehouse fire. This second American edition came in several variants, all in green cloth with the word 'Sea' pluralized in the title, and with the image of Captain Nemo (several Osgood bindings have a jellyfish instead).
