Uncle Remus: His Songs and His Sayings

Author's first book, which introduced the fictional narrator Uncle Remus, whose stories were intended to depict the struggles of plantation life in the American South. This collection of stories compiled was from African-American folktales by Joel Chandler Harris, a journalist who frequently employed dialect in his prose. A number of Uncle Remus stories have inspired adaptations to film and television, including Walt Disney's 1946 'Song of the South.'
