Subscriber's edition, greatly expanded from his 1864 and 1866 collections Lancashire Poems and Lancashire Songs. A list of subscribers following text. Laycock's work was most notable for its incorporation of Lancashire dialect, specifically the vernacular of cotton workers. His father was a weaver, and he himself was a cotton mill worker. This collection was published shortly before his death.
